The Village Cricket Match

‘Oh No, our outfield mower has broken down, the opposition will be here before long, what are we going to do?’ wailed Alastair?

‘The wicket is fine as we have done that this morning with the cylinder mower and rolled it twice – it’s just the outfield that needs doing, it looks like a paddock’ he continued.

Hang on said Jane, there is a farmer down the road I wonder if he could help.

Farmer Fred listened intently To Alastair & Jane as they told him about their plight.

‘Well, you are in a pickle, laughed Fred, I am sure Tim can use the gang mower, pop down to your club and cut the outfield grass.

On hearing his name Tractor Tim rolled out of the barn where he had been dozing in the shade.

‘I heard you Farmer Fred, I’ll go and fetch the gang mower.’ Said Tractor Tim, smiling and looking forward to the adventure.

Not long afterwards Tractor Tim set his gang mower down on the grass in the cricket field, it wasn’t that long but did need to be cut. As he went round and round the field in ever decreasing circles people were starting to arrive to play their game of cricket. Tim knew not to drive on the square with his big wheels and after cutting all the outfield he started towards the gate.

You will stay and watch the game from under the trees over there said Jane. You have saved the day and deserve a rest. Besides I can watch from your seat, it looks ever so comfy.

Tractor Tim beamed and looked forward to an afternoon of watching the cricket. Will he tell his friends back at the farm? We’ll have to wait and see.
