I believe there is a book in everyone. Tractor Tim was mine, I had always wanted to write but the topic always alluded me. However the easiest route is to use your own experiences and expand on them. My childhood was spent around tractors and farm machinery. My father trusted me and gave me a respect for all machinery with safety at the forefront. Many tractors came and went during my childhood but some stuck physically and all mentally. When I finished contracting, a few years after my father had stopped, I couldn’t bring myself to selling the tractors. I used them occasionally to run circular saws and tow trailers but mainly they are just sleeping under cover.
When I met up with friends that I used to work with we always remembered funny things that happened. It was on a flight going on holiday that I thought I would write down some of the funny things that had happened during my time working on farms.
Getting stuck in the middle of a field because Nigel hadn’t mentioned the fresh water spring and having to be pulled out whilst having two tonnes of potatoes in my hopper was a struggle and not very funny at the time as I remember. The names have come from drivers of machines over the years and everyone is pleased to be remembered, so all I can say is that there may be a little bit of truth in most of my stories.
I hope you enjoy Tractor Tim & the Wet Patch and I look forward to introducing you all to other characters and stories very soon.
